Yunnan Minority Village

Our first programme after touching down in the capital city of Kunming was a visit to the minority village for cultural immersion. Many interesting things happened and it was a whole new experience. We saw many sculptures and all sorts of cultural monuments. We took lots of pictures. The shops were arranged in neat rows, which sold all kinds of souvenirs. We bought some gifts for ourselves and our loved ones back home. Dinner was filled with lots of different kinds of food. In fact, we were exposed to ten different sets of dishes! For the non-Chinese, it was a new experience where we learnt how to use chopsticks. After dinner, we made our way to an open area where a huge fire was lit to create a warm fire spot. Soon, dancers in their colourful minority costumes danced to the sound of music. We had lots of fun watching them dance. Some of us even joined in the dances with the locals! Although the temperature here is cooler than in Singapore, we had no troubles adjusting to the climate. We had lots to write in our journal reflections back at the hotel. We look forward to the second day programme.
