Green Energy - Solar

This morning, we had a hearty breakfast to fill our tummy for a big day ahead. The Yunnan University campus is just across the street from our hotel. After a short walk, we arrived at the Engineering Faculty. Professor Chen Xiuhua, from the National Engineering Laboratory of Vacuum Metallurgy, gave us a lecture on "Green Energy - Solar". She presented six topics on:
1. Energy & Environment
2. Renewable Energy
3. New Energy Materials
4. Applications & Technology of New Energy
5. Energy Situation in China & Singapore
6. Introduction of Related Research

We gained much knowledge from the lecture. We were more aware of the energy crisis facing the world today and the related research and development that are being carried out by people like Prof Chen.

One observation - we were surprised that they still use chalk to write on the board instead of whiteboard markers!

Following that, we went to the Kunming University of Science & Technology to have a tour of the research centre. Professor Ma gave us an introduction of their research into solar cell and fuel cell. Fuel cells are used to power most electric motorcycles on China's roads in an effort to cut down on pollution. Maybe Singapore can consider this...

It was quite cold in the afternoon because of the rain; we could see mist coming out from our mouths when we talked!
